Tips for staying motivated

Visualise

"How was Einstein able to conceive the theory of relativity? He said that the crucial thing that helped him was his ability to visualise 'what it would be like to be riding on the end of a moonbeam'."

Julie Stafford

Our brains do not know the difference between what is real and what is imaginary. If we visualise ourselves getting good grades in our assignments and feeling really great, our brains believe that it has happened.

The more you practise visualising, the easier it becomes, and you will find that you become more confident and start to really believe in yourself. Here are some good examples of when you could use visualisation:

  • Exam time – picture yourself really confident before and during the exam, then imagine how you would feel getting positive results, telling your friends and celebrating.
  • Going for an interview – see yourself confident, making a good impression and then being told that you have the job. How great would you feel?
  • Playing sport – imagine yourself kicking the winning goal, running over the race line first or completing your first triathlon. Imagine how you would feel when all your hard work paid off. How would you tell your friends and family? How would you celebrate?

You feel so much better when your brain is receiving positive messages.

Do it now and feel the difference!
