Staff career development service

Person thinking

Career Services offers a personalised step-by-step plan to help staff achieve their potential within an organisation. We also offer ongoing support for implementing staff development plans.

This service involves a Career Consultant working individually with a staff member, and up to three hours of contact time is required for the consultation.

The consultation involves an analysis of an individual's skills, values, interests and personality. Opportunities within their current role and organisation are fully explored and any skill gaps identified.

As part of the process staff critique their own performance and draw up an action plan and timeline. A common result is that staff voluntarily take on extra responsibilities.

The staff career development service helps organisations improve staff performance and retain skilled people.

Personal Development Plans:

  • help staff achieve key performance indicators
  • establish realistic goals
  • outline strategies for improving performance
  • identify training and learning options
  • provide relevant supporting information.

Effective staff development programmes give organisations a vital competitive edge:

"By attracting, retaining and developing its workforce, an organisation achieves the resilience that is required to survive in an increasingly turbulent business environment. The end result of successful career development practice is that an organisation is better placed to adapt and survive in a competitive business climate and is better equipped to face the future.

"Successful career development practice is therefore designed to give an organisation competitive advantage in attracting, retaining and developing the best people."

- Strategies for Career Development (Hirsh and Jackson).

An effective career development programme within an organisation succeeds in addressing both the business requirements of the organisation and the personal career goals of the individual:

Organisation career development is "a planned effort to link the individual's career needs with the organisation's workforce requirements. It is a process for helping individuals plan their careers in concert with an organisation's business requirements and strategic direction."
