Jude Ferguson

Along with her partner Kevin Hayward, Jude Ferguson runs an auction room in Dunedin. But she also works as a law lecturer and says the two jobs have more in common than you would think.
"I teach students legal research skills – how to find out and use databases – and those are the skills I use here at the auction rooms. One of the advantages of being an auctioneer is that you become a temporary expert in the most amazing range of things. For two months I was quite an expert on Coca-Coca memorabilia."

Only after being turned down for several jobs did Neli Laufoli realise the importance of learning.
"I found it hard applying for jobs because I didn’t have any qualifications. They'd ask ‘Have you got any qualifications?’ and I’m like 'Nah', because I never chose to do any."
