Creating a good impression at your interview is vital, but there is more to it than just dressing well and answering some questions.

An interviewer will be judging you based on:

  • how you act
  • how you handle yourself
  • how your appear
  • your attitude.

There’s a lot you can do to prepare for an interview – here are some simple tips to get you started:

  • Arrive on time.
  • Have a clean and tidy appearance.
  • Dress in a way that is appropriate to the job for which you're applying.
  • Sit up straight and make appropriate eye contact throughout the interview.
Look at all your interviewers, but your initial focus should be on whoever asked the question.
  • Stay relaxed, friendly and polite – it's OK to admit feeling nervous.
  • Talk to the interviewers as you would to acquaintances that you trust, but be careful not to be overly familiar.
  • Don't slouch, smoke, chew gum, wear sunglasses, use slang or make negative remarks about former workmates or employers. This will give a negative impression.
