Industry training v Modern Apprenticeships

A Modern Apprenticeship

  • is aimed at people between 16 and 21 years old
  • includes the support of a Modern Apprenticeship co-ordinator who checks the Modern Apprentice’s progress on a regular basis
  • Modern Apprenticeships are only available in 32 industries – contact the industry training organisation (ITO) in charge or Modern Apprenticeship co-ordinator for more information about the opportunities.

Industry training

  • is generally open to people of all ages
  • has no assigned person who checks the industry trainees process on a regular basis – it depends on their own initiative
  • can be done in all industries covered by an industry training organisation (ITO).

Most ITOs have a website about their industry

If your child does not qualify for a Modern Apprenticeship they might still be able to do industry training.

Contact the relevant Industry Training Organisation (ITO) to find out more about the options available to your child.
