Hanna Cox was inspired to study textile design after seeing other students’ work
For Hanna Cox, discovering her chosen career as a textile designer was almost an accident. “I like painting so I did an arts course for a while. Then I finished that and I wasn’t sure what I could do with it – so I decided to study fine arts at Massey.
“I did my first year, which was sort of a sampler year. From there I got a brochure that was an exposure booklet from all the final year students from the year before. I looked through the whole thing. When I looked at the textile design stuff I was like, ‘I want to make art that looks like that!’ That’s what made me really excited about it – I recognised myself in something else.”
After landing a great job within months of finishing her degree, Hanna has no regrets about studying textile design. “It was a great experience, and there are so many different ways you can go at the end of it.”
