Better tertiary education and trade training decisions

Career Services has identified the need for a one-stop-shop for people looking for support in planning their career or assessing their tertiary education options. This initiative allows Career Services to expand and enhance their existing website ( www.careers.govt.nz) and also to increase the availability of quality, personal advice to learners.

A sum of $12.7 million in operating fund has been allocated for this initiative over four years.

The website will expand and enhance training and course material with an emphasis on improved trade training information. It will also include enhanced labour market information and links to tertiary and trade training.

In addition, Career Services will expand support and assistance through its freephone service to find, interpret and personalise information for users, establish outbound calling to potential students and influencers, and provide face-to-face assistance.

Improving access will help learners to better judge the quality and relevance of the tertiary education courses and qualifications on offer. The addition of professional advice will enable learners to understand the relative benefits of different types of tertiary study and trade training and make informed decisions.
