Decision-making steps
Work through the steps below for each of the options on your shortlist to decide which is the best fit for the life you want.
- Think about how well this option fits your skills, values, personality and interests. Consider how it will develop your skills, and how this option might affect others.
- Weigh up the pros and cons of this option and rank the importance of the pros and cons.
- Talk things over with the people who are important to you – for example, your children, partner, and others who will be impacted by the decision you make. Talk to those who have had similar experiences or have made similar decisions.
- Try to imagine you have picked this option. How do you feel about the decision? Excited, uneasy, happy, sad, relieved? How will others respond to your decision?
- Looking at the information you have gathered and the thinking you have done, where are you at now?
