Real futures

The Mt Eden Career Services team, in conjunction with Unitec, ran another successful Real Futures career awareness day for students from refugee backgrounds. The focus of these days is to help increase students’ awareness of just how many different jobs are available, and introduce them to the idea of qualifications staircasing in tertiary study.

Career awareness workshops

Two pilot career awareness workshops, targeting students and school leavers who are unsure of their next career steps, were held at the Hibiscus Coast Youth Centre.

The two-hour workshops included a variety of hands-on activities designed to build awareness of personality traits, and how these could link to different job areas. The groups were also introduced to the Career Services website, and took part in sessions on overcoming challenges and brainstorming solutions.

Workshops focusing on transition activities such as CV writing and job search skills are also planned.
