Work in life
What does "work in life" mean?
Work in life is about the relationship between the life you lead and the work you do.
It is a decision-making model that includes the traditional career decision-making elements of self awareness, opportunity awareness, planning, and taking action, but adds an expanded dimension of broader contextual factors. These include paid work, learning, family and whānau, leisure, interests, culture, spirituality, friends and community.
Work in life is based on the premise that career decisions are made within the context of the life you want to lead – not in isolation. This increases the likelihood of satisfying and successful learning and work. This approach is a point of difference at Career Services; we shape and make choices about our work through this lens.
This combination will not remain fixed, but may change over time. Therefore it is important to realise that work-life balance is achieved by frequent reflection on the relationship between the life you want to lead, and the work you do.
