Leaving school - exit plan

Leaving school is always a big step, and there are a number of decisions to make and options to consider when deciding what to do.

Your own leaving school exit plan can help you check off the things you need to do before leaving school.

Before you start, check:

  • You are almost 16 years old or have already turned 16 (the legal age to leave school)
  • You have a clear idea about what you want to do when you leave school
  • You have spoken to your parents, teachers, careers adviser, guidance counsellor or dean about your plan to leave school.

What will you do when you leave school?

Hints:

Make sure your goals follow the SMARTER principle:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Relevant
  • Timed
  • Evaluated
  • Reviewed
