Media release 11 September 2008

Career Services is pleased to announce the publication of a new guide for teachers: Understanding career education at years 7 and 8. The guide introduces career education at years 7 and 8 level and outlines what is appropriate, why and how.

The guide will be of particular interest for school managers and teachers in years 7 and 8 who are responsible for leading the planning and implementation of career education in their school, as well as all teachers who want to understand how career education will help them meet the needs of their students and prepare them for transition to secondary school.

The guide is being launched at the Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools Conference (NZAIMS) held in Wellington on Wednesday 10th - Friday 12th September.

The online resource can be viewed and downloaded from the Resources and Publications section at www2.careers.govt.nz/4591

The content is based on discussions from two workshops held with principals and teachers from intermediate, primary and CPaBL schools in the Dunedin and Napier regions. The guide was developed by a team from Career Services in collaboration with Dr Heather Carpenter, and was funded by the Ministry of Education.
