Career Services - useful website information
Media release 22 July 2008
Career Services’ website has loads of practical information and tools to help students make good career decisions and successful transitions into the workplace. Here are some of the new resources available on the website:
Tertiary and trade training students
A specialised section for people who are currently in – or about to finish – tertiary courses or industry training programmes that contains information under four headings:
Struggling with your study? Having second thoughts about a course you've started? Read case studies and tips to help you consider your options.
Getting recognition for what you've already learned. Thinking about study or training or even changing courses? You may already have experience, knowledge or skills that could count towards your qualification.
Finishing your industry training, what next? Looking for a new job, going travelling or starting your own business? Whatever your next step, find loads of advice and case studies to help you.
Finishing your tertiary study, what next? Negotiating an employment agreement, further study or training or planning for a family? Loads of advice and case studies to help you decide your next step.
CV wizard
CV 4 Me is an interactive step-by-step tool that results in a fully laid out CV as a Microsoft Word document. This new tool has been created specifically for students and young people entering the workforce who are likely to have little or no work experience. The tool has been designed to be engaging and fun to use. CV 4 Me is full of helpful tips and hints so that young people can present their skills, knowledge and experience in a professional manner.
There are also CV and cover letter templates available as Word documents along with complete examples.
Skill Matcher and Subject Matcher
The Skill Matcher and Subject Matcher are interactive tools that generate job ideas based on the subjects, or skills, that you enjoy. The results show which combinations of subjects or skills they relate to and each job links to a full job profile.
Job profiles
Each of the 600-plus job profiles contains stories of people working in that job, information about entry requirements, relevant courses, the skills required and the likely future demand for people in that field. Something for everyone from dance therapists and dental hygienists to talkback hosts and tattooists.
