A step-by-step guide to applying for a credit transfer

Before you begin

You need to apply for credit transfer or credit exemption when you enrol for your paper. Some tertiary providers recommend you apply six to eight weeks before the paper starts.

1. Apply using the tertiary provider’s application form

  • You may also need to pay an application fee.

2. Provide the official documents with your application

Documents you will need are:

  • an original or witnessed copy of your official transcript, outlining papers, grades and credits
  • a course outline or prospectus, with detailed descriptions of each subject.

3. Receive written notice of the outcome of your application

  • Once granted a credit transfer you don’t need to enrol in the course.
  • The points are credited to your qualification and should appear on your academic record.

4. If unsuccessful, you may appeal the decision

  • For more information about the appeal process, talk to the faculty, subject or department office that supervises the paper you are doing.
