Returning to work career plan
Career plan example for someone returning to work after a break
A 32-year-old who has had some time out of the workforce and is thinking of re-entering the workforce in two years.
My goal: A full-time retail assistant position in two years' time.
What I can do now: Contact local retailers to find out what particular skills, qualities and qualifications they look for.
Possible sequence of steps:
- Look through the vacancy section for retail assistant positions I would like to apply for in the future (over the next month).
- Compile a list of relevant questions to ask employers about what skills, personal qualities, relevant experience or qualifications they expect from potential employees (within two months).
- Contact employers to arrange informal chat about advertised positions (within three months).
- Record and summarise all relevant information from employers (within four months).
- Talk it over with partner (within six months).
- Consider undertaking some form of work experience as this is often the way people gain employment. Make a list of people I know who may be able to help me and start to network (within 12 months).
- Research suitable retail courses and enrol in a course (within 12 months).
